Established in 2009, Entwined Bellydance delivers high quality solo and troupe performances at all kinds of events, and weekly adult dance classes for beginners to advanced dancers, and one off workshops for kids, teens, hens, weddings and baby blessings.

Entwined Bellydance & Yoga
Term 2 Online Autumn Training & Well-Being Menu

30 Mar – 29 Apr – 5 weeks

— MONDAYS —
7-8.30pm – Essential Bellydance Drills
We begin our journey with a warm up of yoga conditioning, flexibility and strength training, particularly focusing on the core, shoulder girdle, hips, hamstrings and posture muscles. We then breakdown and drill key bellydance isolations and then put them together in classic and new combinations for you to put your new or refined skills into practice. This class is suitable for complete beginners or intermediate dancers honing and refining technique.

Each class will include:

  • Body awakening through core activating yoga postures and drills
  • Breakdown and drill key components of bellydance
  • · Combine movements in new and classic bellydance combinations

— TUESDAYS —
7-8.30pm – Soulful Yoga
Awaken the five layers or sheaths of the Atman/soul through pranayama/breathwork, meditation and yoga asana practices. Each class will have a key focus which aligns with our physical or spiritual goals for that week. For instance each week will cover a focus topic such as Inversions, Backbends, Forward Folds, Balancing, Hip or Shoulder Opening. Please note this class aims to provide a holistic approach to yoga.

Each class will include:

  • Awakening breath mediation/pranayama
  • Yoga Asana Practice
  • Meditation
  • Additionally some weeks may also cover chanting and mudras where relevant

— WEDNESDAYS —
7-8.30pm – Essential Fusion Bellydance Drills
Formerly called “tribal fusion” this all round class will include a short conditioning, flexibility and strength warm-up, with a breakdown of classic “tribal” and “fusion” bellydance isolation drills which we will put together in new and classic combinations each week. Whilst this class is suitable for complete beginners, it is aimed at Continuing Beginners and Intermediate dancers honing and refining their technique and building their repertoire.

Each class will include:

  • Body awakening through core activating yoga postures and drills
  • Breakdown and drill key components of “tribal” or “fusion” bellydance
  • Combine movements in new and classic “tribal” or “fusion” bellydance combinations

— MONTHLY FRIDAYS —
8-9pm – Open Floor Dance & Jam

Share your personal expression, receive feedback from your teacher and commune with your dance sisters. Please note, this class is aimed at students who are enrolled in other weekly classes, and have achieved a reasonable competency in the Entwined Bellydance or similar format, to be applied at the discretion of EBD.
— PRIVATES/1on1/PERSONAL PROGRAMS —
I’ll also be offering privates via Zoom at $50/hr (usually $75/term) for you to work on movements of your choice. For personalised program or specific needs such as choreographic development, please request our Professional Development Program Info Sheet.

Term 1 Summer Series 2020

Entwined Bellydance
Term 1 – Summer Series 2020
Monday 3rd February – Wednesday 25th March – 8weeks

Tribal, fusion, bellydance, conditioning and yoga training in Brunswick.

— MONDAYS —
7pm – Conditioning
Hone your body in this yogalates style conditioning class to build strength, flexibility and
endurance in the body. This class draws on yoga, pilates, ballet barre and
bellydance training techniques.

7.30pm – Bellydance Drills & Foundations
Learn and drill the foundation movements of bellydance. Bellydance, or Danse du Vent as called by the French at the turn of the 20th century, is typified by movements of the
torso and belly. You will learn the key muscular isolations incorporating hips,
belly, shoulders and arms, and how to layer these over basic floor patterns.
Entwined has spent many years defining and refining the key movements, arm
patterns and floor work of bellydance, and this class is your one stop shop.

8.30pm – Choreography/Combinations
This class will weave together floor patterns, bellydance isolations and arm movements in a
modern, innovative twist on traditional bellydance movements, incorporating
tribal fusion, tribal style bellydance, and other dance styles, synonymous with
the Entwined approach. We will also be developing work for our upcoming show
Mystic Caravan on May 17.

— TUESDAYS —
8pm – Yoga Vinyasa
Although this class isn’t specifically for dancers, yoga asana and breathwork has been a key
conditioning and strengthening technique used in the Entwined format, as well
as a tool for reversing back pain and poor posture. This class will open the
mind, body and soul to receive the sacred transmission of dance.

This class seamlessly weaves together the key movements of tribal and fusion bellydance.
Entwined has spent many years defining and refining the key movements, arm
patterns and floor work of tribal and fusion bellydance, and this class is your

Summer School 2020

EB-Showcase - 15-12-19 (105)Hone your technique, increase your endurance, build and solidify your repertoire, and condition your body. We will sweat, flow, laugh and create on this mini summer 3 week intensive. Register your interest NOW!

Monday 6 January: 7-8.30pm – Drill Me, Thrill Me 

Join in this epic flow drill class covering the key isolations of bellydance in a condensed, fast-paced invigorating format. Rather than focusing on breakdown technique, this class will focus on repetition, strength training, fitness and endurance. The aim is to really embed the moves for new or beginning dancers or re-establish the moves for intermediate or advanced dancers after the festive break, through repetition into the muscle memory and neuron pathways.

Tuesday 7 January: 8-9.30pm – Strong Yoga Flow with Entwined

This class will be designed with bellydancers in mind, and reinvigorate and realign the body, mind and soul for dance after the festive break. We will focus on strengthening, balance and creating flexibility in key areas of the body involved in bellydance, such as the legs, shoulders and torso.

Wednesday 8 January: 7.30-8.30pm – Let’s Flow, Let’s Glide

Tribal fusion dancers love their feminine flow and serpentine slink, and this class will focus on some of the key tribal fusion combinations which flow from one part of the body to the other. This class focuses on drills and repetition to embed the movements in the body. We’ll have you connecting with your inner mermaid, sea goddess or leafy sea dragon.

Monday 13 January:  7-8.30pm – Welcome to Shimmy Town

We breakdown the key shimmies used in bellydance, tribal and fusion bellydance, and drill the night away. This class focuses on repetition, endurance and fitness, and building your repertoire of shimmies. We go well beyond the classic Egyptian leg shimmy and classic tribal ghawazi, and ride the wave of those endorphins to shimmy town!

Tuesday 14 January: 8-9.30pm – Lock & Flow

Building on Let’s Flow, Let’s Glide or available as a stand alone offering, this workshop combines the lock and serpentine of bellydance into classic urban industrial contemporary movement for the modern dancer. We divinely blend the masculine and the feminine in your body y’all.

Wednesday 15 January: 7.30-8.30pm – Sass with Dat?

This class will focus on building performance technique and facial expression. We aim to help you find your inner sass through character and choreographic concepts, tools and combinations. Why just pout or smile, let’s explore the spectrum of our other emotions and archetypes classic to our dance form to bring out your inner performer.

Monday 20 January: 7-8.30pm – Follow da Dubmaster / Puppetmaster

This class will be an organic improvisational tribal fusion dance workshop. Be the leader or follow the pack, this workshop will focus on letting go of control, using your tools and repetoire, building camaradie and tribe, playing with formations and working in a group. Leave your ego at the door and embrace the divine chaos.

Tuesday 21 January: 8-9.30pm – Gentle Yoga Flow with Entwined

This class will be designed with busy dancers and performers in mind, and will nourish and balance the body, mind and soul for the upcoming period. We will focus on lengthening, deepening and opening the key body areas which get tight in bellydance, such as legs, shoulders and hip flexors.

P1100277.JPGWhat an incredible start to Winter! We’ve had full houses in most classes this term, and the energy and openness for learning in the room has been so wonderful to witness!

No matter what walk of life you come from or what tradition you follow, as I study more about more about human consciousness, embodiment is the key to happiness and contentedness, so if we can get into our state of flow though dance, then what an amazing way to spend your free time, get fit, toned and commune in dance other like-minded souls.

I am so passionate about bellydance, and it is such an absolute pleasure to get to share this incredible dance form which I have been embodying and studying for over 15years with incredible, enthusiastic and diverse women every week!

Build your musculature, flexibility and articulation through conditioning exercises for bellydance inspired by classical dance, pilates and yoga. Laura has completed Dance Therapeutics 1, and is currently completing her Yoga Teacher Training after 20years yogi experience.

7.30pm – Bellydance Essentials & Drills

We will break down the key isolations and foundation movements of bellydance for you, drill them with you to consolidate into the body, and where relevant, add them to the basic foot and arm patterns, timing and musicality used in bellydance. We will focus on and explain safe dance posture and technique and how this relates to each movement.

8.30pm – Tribal & Fusion Bellydance Movement, Combinations & Choreography

In this class we will be weave together the key movements, foot patterns and combinations in tribal and fusion style bellydance into a choreography suitable for continuing beginners or beginners wanting a challenge. These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15.

In this class we will be learning the key movements of tribal bellydance, which integrates traditional and classic bellydance movements into fun movement combinations. Tribal bellydance is one of the pillars of tribal fusion bellydance, so this class is recommended for beginners or continuing beginners wishing to learn the foundations and explore this new dance style. This class is great for anyone less focused on technique who wants to dance and jam it all together in a fun class environment. Finger cymbals are optional for those who want to challenge themselves.

8.30pm – Tribal & Fusion Choreography, Combinations & Movement
This class moves beyond the basics of bellydance and tribal and fusion bellydance weaving and layering the components together in a move complex manner. Weave together feet, isolations and arms and really start to embody this incredible artful dance form! These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15.

In this class we will be weave together the key movements, foot patterns and combinations in tribal and fusion style bellydance into a choreography suitable for continuing beginners or beginners wanting a challenge. These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15. Laura has completed numerous studies over the past 15years with the leaders and pioneers in the tribal and fusion field such as Jill Parker, Rachel Brice, Deb Rubin, Mardi Love, Sharon Kihara, Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle and Princess Farhana.

In this class we will be learning the key movements of tribal bellydance, which integrates traditional and classic bellydance movements into fun movement combinations. Tribal bellydance is one of the pillars of tribal fusion bellydance, so this class is recommended for beginners or continuing beginners wishing to learn the foundations and explore this new dance style. This class is great for anyone less focused on technique who wants to dance and jam it all together in a fun class environment. Finger cymbals are optional for those who want to challenge themselves. Laura has completed American Tribal Style General Skills (Level 1/2), Unmata L1, various Gypsy Caravan and L3/4 ATS workshops and has 6 years experience dancing in Underbelly’s tribal bellydance troupe Red Belly Black.

8.30pm – Tribal & Fusion Choreography, Combinations & Movement
This class moves beyond the basics of bellydance and tribal and fusion bellydance weaving and layering the components together in a move complex manner. Weave together feet, isolations and arms and really start to embody this incredible artful dance form! These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15. Laura has over 15years of study, 5years of teaching, 6years dancing in a student dance troupe, 2years experience dancing in a semi-professional dance troupe and 9years experience dancing professionally as a soloist and troupe leader to draw on.

8.15-9.15pm – Bellydance Movement, Combinations & Choreography
In this class we will be weave together the key movements, foot patterns and combinations of bellydance into a slow-paced choreography suitable for continuing beginners or beginners wanting a challenge. These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year. This term, we will be focussing on a slow fusion style choreography.

For those who know the foundations of bellydance, and want to weave it all together in fun and complex combinations and choreographies, this term we will be working on a classic taxeem and upbeat drum solo for our classic bellydance troupe repertoire and shows. There will be the option for improvisational development within this class format to both challenge and build your confidence and personal style.
