Established in 2009, Entwined Bellydance delivers high quality solo and troupe performances at all kinds of events, and weekly adult dance classes for beginners to advanced dancers, and one off workshops for kids, teens, hens, weddings and baby blessings.

P1100277.JPGWhat an incredible start to Winter! We’ve had full houses in most classes this term, and the energy and openness for learning in the room has been so wonderful to witness!

No matter what walk of life you come from or what tradition you follow, as I study more about more about human consciousness, embodiment is the key to happiness and contentedness, so if we can get into our state of flow though dance, then what an amazing way to spend your free time, get fit, toned and commune in dance other like-minded souls.

I am so passionate about bellydance, and it is such an absolute pleasure to get to share this incredible dance form which I have been embodying and studying for over 15years with incredible, enthusiastic and diverse women every week!

Term 3 – Winter 2019 Series Part 2 with Entwined Bellydance
Traditional, Tribal & Fusion Bellydance Training – Brunswick, Melbourne

Part 2: Monday 12 August – Wednesday 18 September(6weeks)

— MONDAYS —

7pm – Conditioning for Bellydance

Build your musculature, flexibility and articulation through conditioning exercises for bellydance inspired by classical dance, pilates and yoga. Laura has completed Dance Therapeutics 1, and is currently completing her Yoga Teacher Training after 20years yogi experience.

7.30pm – Bellydance Essentials & Drills

We will break down the key isolations and foundation movements of bellydance for you, drill them with you to consolidate into the body, and where relevant, add them to the basic foot and arm patterns, timing and musicality used in bellydance. We will focus on and explain safe dance posture and technique and how this relates to each movement.

8.30pm – Tribal & Fusion Bellydance Movement, Combinations & Choreography

In this class we will be weave together the key movements, foot patterns and combinations in tribal and fusion style bellydance into a choreography suitable for continuing beginners or beginners wanting a challenge. These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15.

7.30pm – Tribal Bellydance Essentials

In this class we will be learning the key movements of tribal bellydance, which integrates traditional and classic bellydance movements into fun movement combinations. Tribal bellydance is one of the pillars of tribal fusion bellydance, so this class is recommended for beginners or continuing beginners wishing to learn the foundations and explore this new dance style. This class is great for anyone less focused on technique who wants to dance and jam it all together in a fun class environment. Finger cymbals are optional for those who want to challenge themselves.

8.30pm – Tribal & Fusion Choreography, Combinations & Movement
This class moves beyond the basics of bellydance and tribal and fusion bellydance weaving and layering the components together in a move complex manner. Weave together feet, isolations and arms and really start to embody this incredible artful dance form! These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15.

In this class we will be weave together the key movements, foot patterns and combinations in tribal and fusion style bellydance into a choreography suitable for continuing beginners or beginners wanting a challenge. These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15. Laura has completed numerous studies over the past 15years with the leaders and pioneers in the tribal and fusion field such as Jill Parker, Rachel Brice, Deb Rubin, Mardi Love, Sharon Kihara, Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle and Princess Farhana.

In this class we will be learning the key movements of tribal bellydance, which integrates traditional and classic bellydance movements into fun movement combinations. Tribal bellydance is one of the pillars of tribal fusion bellydance, so this class is recommended for beginners or continuing beginners wishing to learn the foundations and explore this new dance style. This class is great for anyone less focused on technique who wants to dance and jam it all together in a fun class environment. Finger cymbals are optional for those who want to challenge themselves. Laura has completed American Tribal Style General Skills (Level 1/2), Unmata L1, various Gypsy Caravan and L3/4 ATS workshops and has 6 years experience dancing in Underbelly’s tribal bellydance troupe Red Belly Black.

8.30pm – Tribal & Fusion Choreography, Combinations & Movement
This class moves beyond the basics of bellydance and tribal and fusion bellydance weaving and layering the components together in a move complex manner. Weave together feet, isolations and arms and really start to embody this incredible artful dance form! These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year, including our End of Year Showcase on December 15. Laura has over 15years of study, 5years of teaching, 6years dancing in a student dance troupe, 2years experience dancing in a semi-professional dance troupe and 9years experience dancing professionally as a soloist and troupe leader to draw on.

8.15-9.15pm – Bellydance Movement, Combinations & Choreography
In this class we will be weave together the key movements, foot patterns and combinations of bellydance into a slow-paced choreography suitable for continuing beginners or beginners wanting a challenge. These choreographies form the basis of potential performance opportunities throughout the year. This term, we will be focussing on a slow fusion style choreography.

For those who know the foundations of bellydance, and want to weave it all together in fun and complex combinations and choreographies, this term we will be working on a classic taxeem and upbeat drum solo for our classic bellydance troupe repertoire and shows. There will be the option for improvisational development within this class format to both challenge and build your confidence and personal style.

Tuesday 15 January
Delicious Zilicious
We breakdown and drill finger cymbal patterns and combinations and layer with bellydance movements and combinations. This will give you a great introduction to using finger cymbals, hone your technique, expand your repertoire, and give you a good grounding in folkloric style which can be utilised in American Tribal Style or traditional bellydance formats.

Wednesday 16 January
Improvisation
This class will provide different methods and technique for improvisation and how we improvise in the Entwined Bellydance format. We will provide an introduction to American Tribal Style Bellydance and how classic formations and troupe format movements can be used for group or solo improvisation. A good brush up for anyone who has previously done group improvisation, regulars looking to expand on their capacity or complete beginners wanting to learn a few basics.

Tuesday 22 January
Get Your Glitch On Part 1
Summer festival season is upon us! We’ll drill your fave bellydance moves but then add some unexpected fun tribal fusion style slinks, pops and locks to get your moving like a babe on the dancefloor. We’ll play with some combinations to some of my favourite current glitch tracks, and do some conditioning drills to hone the deep musculature of the body so you can access that deep serpentine core.

Wednesday 23 January
Get Your Glitch On Part 2 (Can’t get enough edition)
Part 2, cause 1 shot is not enough! We’ll continue to play with some slinky poppy combinations to some of my favourite current glitch tracks, and do some conditioning drills to hone the deep musculature of the body so you can access that deep inner pool of yumm!

This class will provide an opportunity to learn and refine the core bellydance movement isolations and foot and arm patterns. We will break down each movement, provide conditioning drills to assist the body to integrate these movements successfully, explore safe bellydance technique and posture.

Wednesdays
7.30pm – Drills & Combinations – Beyond Beginners
This class will provide an opportunity to build on and layer up from the basics, into more complex bellydance movements and foot and arm patterns. We will break down each component and then layer on so you can choose your level.

8.30pm – Choreography
Join me for a heady ride of passion, fire, emotion packaged into a new bellydance choreography to wet your appetite for the upcoming year.

After their massively successful sell out debut full-length show in December 2017, Entwined Bellydance returns with the sequel – Folklore to Faery Dust, Sunday 16 December at 24Moons, Northcote.

Once again, the second full length showcase features 3 captivating sets – Folk – Desert – Magic – showcasing the diverse range of emotive fusions created by Entwined Bellydance director Laura Entwined in 2018, and brought to life with the support of Entwined Bellydance’s supporting cast of emerging artists and class of 2018!

Drills, Technique & Conditioning
Learn the foundations of bellydance and tribal bellydance. Hone, refine and expand your dance technique and vocabulary with drills, muscular isolations/breakdowns and conditioning exercises to prepare and strengthen the body. Learn about the culture and lineage and bellydance and tribal style from your passionate teacher Laura Entwined. These classes suit all levels and are beginner friendly. Through these classes, Laura hopes to see you build strength, flexibility, coordination and expanded movement ability in your body, provide a strong technical foundation for bellydance, create connection to community, tribe, body, soul and mind, and hopefully ignite a fire in your belly for middle eastern dance which turns into a devotion which goes on for many years.

Combinations & Choreography
These classes will weave together technique, foot patterns, arm pathways and movements learned in drills, technique and conditioning classes. Please note, Drills, Technique and Conditioning are a pre-requisite for attending these classes, or proven prior experience with Entwined. Please note, we are working on performances for our upcoming End of Year Showcase Folklore to Faery Dust, Sunday 16 December at 24Moons, Northcote. If you do not wish to perform, but want to learn the choreography you are welcome to attend for the term but please note, you may be asked to work around performance troupe/formation as required to prepare for our end of year performance. Through these choreography classes, Laura hopes to build on a strong technique foundation, and provide an opportunity to challenge the mind and body, increase coordination, peripheral vision, memory and spatial awareness dancing in troupe; provide context and an opportunity to connect with middle eastern dance and music on a more emotional level; as well as build understanding, sisterhood, respect and empathy with your fellow dancers and tribe.

Far East Bellydance Festival

We will be presenting as part of the workshop, open stage and live gala show programming.
